Digital Griffix Awards interview with our Best Fiction Film winner, Stevan Stancevic
-What made you go into filmmaking ?
It's hard to tell the exact reason, it was the probably the combination of different aspects of my life and the timing. I know that after a years of acting I woke up one day and said to myself: "I want to make a movie". I didn't know how or what exactly I would do, just that it needs to be done. And it was, and I loved it. Been doing it since!
-What is your favorite movie and why?
Wow, these questions are hard! Just kidding, if I must pick one, just one movie it would be "Underground" by Emir Kusturica. In my opinion that is the most complete movie I've ever watched. Characters are colorful and full of life, the story is so crazy that you can watch it over and over again and not get all of the symbols and hidden gems. Not to mention music, scenography, director's perfect instructions and maybe a bit of improvisation. It is a perfect emotional rollercoaster that leaves you with the movie days after you watch it, no matter how many times you've seen it before.
-How would you make your last movie better, if you had that opportunity?
I would play more with camera angles maybe, and include more actors. It would not change the story, but I think it would make it seem more alive, more vivid. Tight schedule and harsh nature didn't let us have that kind of luxury.
-Why did you choose that particular subject for your latest film?
I think we are small species that exists for a short time on a giant rock. And again, we give ourselves importance like the universe is spinning around us. If we continue to behave like that to each other, and to the planet, we will surely be taken several thousand years back by the planet itself. And that will, again lead to more violence and destruction. It's just who humans are.
-What do you think is the most important thing to know when you start a career in filmmaking ?
The most important thing in moviemaking is to go and to the thing. Just go to the set and record whatever. Then, when you go home and see the garbage that you recorded, don't fall in despair or quit. Go and do another, maybe a bit better. Of course, a good story is nice to have but that also comes with the experience.
-Can you give us a hint about your upcoming projects ?
Oh yes, we are preparring something longer, if the stars align it will be beautiful and funny.
